Poetry & music in the gardens

On Sunday 23rd of June (2024), the brothers at the St John of the Cross monastery in Úbeda (Andalucia) hosted a special event in their gardens to mark St. John’s Day and the summer solstice. Maria del Mar Poyatos combined piano music with a recital of poems, with the stunning backdrop of the Los Olivos sculpture of John of the Cross which was donated to the monastery in 2018. John’s sculpture presides over a turret of the medieval city walls that enclose the monastic gardens. The monastery is open to visitors who wish to explore the John of the Cross museum, or spend a few days of personal retreat in this stunning Unesco World Heritage city.
