Group Retreats & Pilgrimages

Los Olivos Retreats has selected three stunning locations for group retreats and pilgrimages in Spain: Segovia, Úbeda and Málaga. Each of these cities offers a wide range of possibilities for bespoke group retreats and pilgrimages, around different Christian spirituality themes and authors (including the Spanish mystics), with opportunities to explore Spanish art, history, spirituality, poetry and nature. In this page you will find information about the selected venues and sample retreats. We will work with you to adapt the week to your interests and group needs.

Segovia is one of the most exquisite mediaeval cities in central Spain, boasting a magnificent Roman aqueduct, a beautiful gothic cathedral and an iconic castle. It is also home to the Carmelite monastery that John of the Cross himself built and where he is buried. Your group will stay in this beautiful monastery, surrounded by gorgeous countryside, not far from the river that became a source of spiritual  inspiration for the mystic.

Ubeda is a stunning Unesco heritage city in southern Spain, majoring a number of impressive renaissance palaces and churches. It is also home to the Carmelite Priory where John of the Cross spent the last few months of his life. The gardens of the monastery, by the city walls, now hold the St John of the Cross sculpture that was once at the centre of the Los Olivos courtyard. Your group will stay in this beautiful monastery, on the edge of the city centre.

Malaga is one of Europe’s up and coming art capitals. The birthplace of Picasso, the city now hosts a number of first class museums and art galleries, including the Pompidou Museum, the St. Petersburg Russian National Collection, the Thyssen Museum and Picasso’s home museum. The city, looking out onto the Mediterranean sea, also has a Roman theatre, a Moorish castle and a baroque cathedral. Your group will stay in the Diocesan Spirituality House, once the city seminary, at the edge of the city centre.
